Theatre Camp
Theatre Camp for Edmundite Missions'
New Possibilities Youth Program
Yellowhammer Theatre Group partnered with Edmundite Missions to hold a theatre camp for 6th-8th graders. The 19 campers -- only two had ever seen a play or been in a play -- learned the basics of theatre, including story structure for playwriting, stage directions and working as an ensemble. Divided into four groups, they worked in teams to adapt children’s stories such as Little Red Riding Hood into plays under the guidance of teaching artists. They created characters and wrote all the dialogue and stage directions. The camp culminated in a performance for family, friends and the community.
The Yellowhammer team is looking forward to next summer's camp session!
Workshop
Yellowhammer Theatre Group Founder Patti Siegel taught an enrichment class on the arts for the Selma chapter of Aum Foundation's Pathway 2 Success. About the program:
The Aum Foundation offers the Pathway 2 Success (P2S) Program for under-resourced female high school students in their senior year. The purpose of the program is to allow the student to gain experience and insight into their career path, while also building life skills to aid them in breaking generational poverty and prepare them for the workforce. We encourage our participants to develop and implement a comprehensive education and career plan through mentoring, enrichment programs, and job shadowing. The end goal of our program is to provide our girls with the tools to achieve higher education degrees, economic independence, and, in turn, give back to the community.
